Man Arrested After Suspicious Luggage Prompts Investigation, Halts Trains at Ogilvie

A suspect was arrested hours after a "suspicious package incident" forced many to evacuate Ogilvie Transportation Center and halted trains for more than two hours, Metra police announced Thursday.

Rajender Chandani, 46, of Hogansville, Georgia, was arrested at around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday after Metra officers saw him enter the train station once again, according to authorities.

Earlier that day, Chandani allegedly had a conversation with a station employee before leaving two bags near an information booth in the station's platform area. The unattended luggage prompted a massive investigation from Metra and Chicago police before the bags were deemed safe.

Chandani appeared to be headed back to the station when he was stopped by Metra detectives "who were surveilling him," Metra police said. He was being held at the Chicago Police Department's first district on a chance of disorderly conduct.

Additional charges were pending, police said.

It was not immediately clear if Chandani had an attorney.
