A retired Chicago police officer accused of threatening authorities investigating the death of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz has pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
Prosecutors say a Lake County judge accepted a plea agreement Thursday under which 54-year-old Joseph Battaglia of Oak Lawn was sentenced to 12 months supervision. The Daily Herald reports prosecutors dropped a charge of harassment by telephone.
Battaglia is accused of calling the Lake County Coroner's Office and threatening to hurt investigators if they didn't declare Gliniewicz's Sept. 1 death a suicide. At the time, days into the investigation, authorities said they believed it was a homicide.
The agreement also calls for Battaglia to have no contact with the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and employees of the Coroner's Office.
