Marcel Hug Wins 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Wheelchair Race

Marcel Hug shocked the marathon world with his victory in last year’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and this year, he earned the first-place title once again.

Out racing his biggest competitor, Kurt Fearnley, who he narrowly beat in 2016 in a stunning photo finish, Hug won this year’s wheelchair race by a much larger margin. [[449238583, C]]

"It was a really tough race I tried to attack many times," he said at the finish line. 

Hug faced fierce competition but managed break away from the group of several elite wheelchair athletes, finishing with an official time of 1:29:23. 

"I love to be here," he said. "The Chicago marathon is one of my favorite marathons." 

Fearnley entered the race as Chicago’s most decorated male wheelchair athlete, but came in second for the second year in a row. His time was 1:30:24.
