Maggie Daley Park Delays Opening of Skating Ribbon

If you’ve been waiting to dust off the skates and take to the ice at Maggie Daley Park’s skating ribbon, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer.

Park officials have delayed opening of the popular outdoor rink due to the unseasonably warm temperatures.

The skating ribbon at 337 E. Randolph St. was originally scheduled to begin welcoming skaters Friday, the same day that McCormick Tribune Ice Rink opens for the season. But with temperatures that could reach 70 degrees on Thursday, it has been pushed back a week to match the opening date of the city’s other outdoor rinks.

Maggie Daley Park’s skating ribbon will now open Friday, Nov. 25 for the season that runs through the first week of March.

Admission to the skating ribbon is free, with rentals costing $12 each when skating Monday through Thursday, or $14 Friday through Sunday.

The ribbon opens at noon and closes at 8 p.m. on all weekdays except Friday, when it stays open until 10 p.m. Skating is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
