Maday's Arrest Captured on Video

Robert Maday arrested day after escape from custody

About 27 hours after making a bold break from investigators while being taken to a courthouse in Arlington Heights on Thursday, serial bank robber Robert Maday was face-down in the grass, handcuffed, and complaining of back pain.

His arrest was captured by an amateur videographer.

Maday's ordeal ended Friday morning when he crashed a Volkswagen Jetta he'd stolen into a utility pole and an area of brush while being chased by police.

Approached by officers, Maday was wedged between the front seat and the steering wheel.

He didn't resist arrest, which was met with applause from bystanders, and was transported to a hospital on a gurney.  He likely won't be making good on his threat from three years ago that he was not going back to jail.

Late Friday, the two guards Maday overpowered were relieved of their duties.
