The Chicago White Sox faced a late deficit on Wednesday afternoon, but they got some big-time help from one of their most intriguing prospects.

Outfielder Luis Robert, who made his first start in center field for the White Sox against the Cincinnati Reds, launched an eighth-inning grand slam to left field at Camelback Ranch, giving his team the cushion they needed in a 14-12 victory.

Robert, ranked as the team’s third rated prospect by MLB Pipeline, also notched a walk as he pushed the team to a big win.

Yoan Moncada went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk in the game, and Yolmer Sanchez launched his first home run of the spring in the victory.

The White Sox got off to a rough start as Miguel Gonzalez was shelled for four earned runs in the first inning of the game. By the time the Reds’ offense was done, they had raced out to a 9-3 lead after the top of the second inning, but the Sox weren’t quitting on the game.

Slowly but surely, they chipped away at the Cincinnati lead, and they ultimately took the lead in the eighth inning as Robert hit his first home run of the spring.

News and Notes:

-A pair of the team’s key relievers made appearances Wednesday, with Luis Avilan striking out three batters in 1.1 innings of work. Nate Jones got the win for the White Sox, giving up one hit and no runs in an inning of work.

-Matt Davidson, who is looking to take a big step forward this season, launched his third home run of the spring in the sixth inning of the game. Davidson had three RBI in the contest, and is now batting .393 with a 1.309 OPS in Cactus League action.

-Daniel Palka launched one of the longest home runs of spring training in the third inning of the game, with the ball flying an estimated 472 feet and nearly hitting the videoboard at Camelback Ranch.

The White Sox will get into split squad action on Thursday, as they head to Surprise to take on the Texas Rangers and welcome the Kansas City Royals to Glendale.
