Lucas Giolito, Yolmer Sánchez Named A.L. Gold Glove Award Finalists

Giolito and Sánchez would both be first-time winners if they come out on top

A pair of Chicago White Sox players will have a chance to bring home some hardware this offseason as Lucas Giolito and Yolmer Sánchez have been named as finalists for American League Gold Glove Awards.

The awards, given to the best defender at each position on the diamond, are considered to be extremely prestigious prizes, and two White Sox players could be adding them to their mantels.

Giolito was one of three pitchers nominated for the award, joining Minnesota Twins hurler Jose Berrios and Seattle Mariners pitcher Mike Leake. Giolito had a perfect fielding percentage this season, with 15 assists and four putouts in 19 total chances, and had a Defensive Runs Saved of three, by far the best of his career.

Sánchez will be hoping to take home the prize at second base, going up against Astros star Jose Altuve and D.J. LeMahieu of the New York Yankees. In 149 games, Sánchez posted a .987 fielding percentage, with 248 putouts and 416 assists in 673 total chances. He made nine errors on the season.

The winners of the awards will be announced in a televised special on Nov. 3.
