After a strong season that saw him strike out 228 batters and rack up 14 victories, Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito will miss the remainder of the campaign with a lat strain.

Giolito, who went 14-9 with a 3.41 ERA in 29 starts this season, was diagnosed with a mild right lat strain after undergoing an MRI on Monday, the team said.

After a dismal 2018 season, Giolito experienced a career renaissance in 2019, slashing his ERA by nearly three runs and bumping up his strikeout total from 125 to 228 in nearly the same number of innings pitched.

Giolito also made his first career All-Star Game roster, capping off a remarkable year.

The hurler also set a team record by striking out eight consecutive batters in his last outing of the year, a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 12.

Ross Detwiler will take Giolito’s spot in the rotation when the White Sox take on the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
