Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito will come off the 10-day injured list on Thursday after recovering from a hamstring injury, but his return will come at a cost as pitcher Carlos Rodón will take his place on the list with an injury of his own.
Giolito, who suffered the injury during an April 17 game against the Kansas City Royals, will make the start for the White Sox on Thursday when they take on the Boston Red Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, the team announced Thursday.
Giolito has started four games so far this season for the White Sox, posting a 5.30 ERA and a 2-1 record in those starts.
Unfortunately for the White Sox, their rotation will also take a hit on Thursday, as Rodón will take Giolito’s place on the injured list. The hurler will be sidelined for at least 10 days with inflammation in his left elbow after struggling to make it out of the fourth inning in Wednesday’s start against the Baltimore Orioles.
So far this season, Rodón has a 5.19 ERA, a 3-2 record, and 46 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work for the White Sox.
Before Thursday's game against the Red Sox, G.M. Rick Hahn said that "all options are on the table" for the left-hander, including Tommy John surgery.
"At this piont, I can say everything is on the table," he told media members in the Sox dugout. "I can't rule anything out. I don't want to speak for any doctors...but unfortunately at this point everything is on the table."
