Lovie Smith Interviewing In Buffalo: Report

As the Bears move full-speed ahead with their coaching search, recently fired Bears coach Lovie Smith is reportedly expected to interview with the Buffalo Bills. Their coaching spot opened up after Chan Gailey was fired on Monday.

Buffalo could be a good fit for Smith. At 54, Smith still has plenty of coaching left in him, and the Bills need defensive help. In 2012, they gave up nearly 27 points and 362 yards per game.

ESPN analyst Adam Schefter tweeted Thursday afternoon that the San Diego Chargers are also interested in speaking with Smith about its head coach opening. The Chargers fired Norv Turner after the season.

With seven coaching openings, it's likely Smith will land another head coaching job. He had a winning record with the Bears and is respected around the league. Nationally, his firing came as a surprise, so it's unlikely that he will be on the unemployment line anytime soon.

It's also good for the Bears if he does find a job. Whatever he is paid by whoever employs him will be deducted from the $5 million-plus that is left on his contract.
