Pricey Purses Snatched at Louis Vuitton Store

The front window at the Michigan Avenue Louis Vuitton store was busted Saturday morning and a thief or thieves then made off with various items such as purses and other luxury accessories from the shop's display cases, police said.

Sometime about 6 a.m. the burglar or burglars got into the high-end shop, at 919 N. Michigan Ave., by breaking out the front windows, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

They took several items -- purses, bags, and other goods -- from the front display cases, Mirabelli said.

An estimate of the value of the items taken Saturday morning was unavailable police said, but according to the Louis Vuitton website women's wallets can range from approximately $500 to about $1,000, while clutches and handbags with the distinctive "LV" stamp can cost from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.

No one was in custody as of about 11 a.m. Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
