Lollapalooza, Summerfest Make Orbitz List of Top Family-Friendly Music Festivals

Lollapalooza's kid-friendly section — Kidzapalooza — was higlighted as top family-friendly element

One Chicago music festival has been named a top event for the music-loving family.

Lollapalooza made a list of the top family-friendly music festivals in the country compiled by the travel company Orbitz. The Chicago fest landed the No. 2 spot behind Summerfest in Milwaukee.

"Lolla appeals to everyone from college kids to parents with kids," Jeanenne Tomatore of Orbitz wrote. "In fact, the family area has become so popular, it has its own name — Kidzapalooza."

The kid-friendly section of Lollapalooza has its own stage with several acts performing this year, including the School of Rock AllStars and Mista Cookie Jar and the Chocolate Chips. Young festival-goers can also participate in activities like creating their own music and arts and crafts.

Children age 10 and under can enter Kidzapalooza for free. The festival runs July 31 to Aug. 2.

Not too far away, Milwaukee's biggest music festival — Summerfest — also offers family activities, including live theater performances, hands-on art projects, science experiments and performances by magicians and dance groups. The festival grounds also feature a large outdoor playground.

Orbitz's top-five list is rounded out by Austin City Limits Music Fest in Texas; Bumbershoot in Seattle, Wash.; and Floydfest in Floyd, Va.
