Lollapalooza Cleanup to Cost Less This Year

This year's estimated cleanup costs are expected to total $150,000

Lollapalooza 2012 left a muddy mark on Chicago's Grant Park, but if the repair bill is any indication, it was a much smaller mark than last year's festival.

The park's repair costs are estimated at $150,000, which is down significantly from the $1 million to clean the park last year, Lollapalooza organizers C3 Presents said in a statement.

The Chicago Parks District plans to work with Christy Webber Landscapes to restore the park to its pre-Lolla condition. C3 Presents will pick up the bill as part of its contract to use the city's facility.

Restoration work began on Butler Field Tuesday, C3 Presents said. Work is also set to include aeration, seeding, and the laying of new sod, according to the company

The festival had to be evacuated due to severe weather this year, leading to a muddy ending to the second day. But last year was worse, among the worst in the festival's history, leading to its much higher cleanup tab.

C3 Presents credits less rain this year for the lower bill, noting that three inches of rain fell during 2011's festival, causing a great deal of sod damage.
