Man Shot and Killed During Attempted Carjacking in Logan Square: Police

Police are searching for a gunman after a man was fatally shot in a carjacking attempt in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood late Sunday night.

Authorities said the incident took place at around 11:47 p.m. in the 3000 block of North Kimball Avenue.

A 22-year-old man was sitting in his car with a 21-year-old woman when an unknown man approached and demanded the vehicle, according to police. The suspect and the man were "involved in an altercation," officials said, during which the offender fired several shots, striking the victim.

The man was shot in the arm, chest and forehead, according to police, who said he was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality and further details, including his identity, were not available.

The woman in the car was not injured in the incident, according to police.

The suspect fled the scene on foot to a dark-colored van with tinted windows, officials said. He was described as between 17 and 24 years old, standing at around 5'10" with a slender build at about 130 pounds and wearing dark clothing.

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting, according to police, who continue to investigate.
