Ice Covers Little Village Road After Water Main Break

Rupture near West 27 Street and South Kedzie Avenue was reported about 3 p.m. Monday

Amateur video recorded Monday night shows a geyser of water following a water main break in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.

The leak from the 12 inch pipe was first reported near the corner of West 27 Street and South Kedzie Avenue at about 3 p.m. That main was connected to a 36 inch main, a spokesperson with the city's Department of Water Management told NBC Chicago.

The official said crews had "control" of the leak by 10:30 p.m., but NBC Chicago viewer Carlos Yanez Sr. said he still saw water coming from the pipe as of 10:45 p.m.

"Very dangerous and slippery going southbound the city has not put down any salt at all," Yanez wrote. "The street is starting to freeze up cars are sliding all over going south bound."

The rupture was fixed by early Tuesday morning but ice covered the roadway and nearby trees.
