Girl, 12, Shot in Little Village

A 12-year-old girl is in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital after being shot in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.

Officials said the girl was shot at about 7:20 p.m. near 24th and California. The neighborhood is a long-disputed between rival gangs, neighbors say.

The girl was reportedly walking with her uncle in front of an elementary school when she was struck in the back by a bullet.

Police said an alleged gang member was believed to be shooting at someone from another gang.

"This is like terrorism. We can't come out, we can't sit in the boulevard. Why? Because we've got no protection," said one man, who declined to provide his name. "How do I feel? Terrible. Because this stuff goes on... tomorrow it'll be the same thing."

The shooting comes just two days after a 13-year-old boy died after being shot in the neck while playing basketball.
