Police on Tuesday were investigating whether a morning hair salon robbery was linked to a rash of recent similar crimes.
A man walked into a hair salon in the 1000 block of West Webster shortly before 10 a.m., pulled out a gun and demanded money, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said. After grabbing an unknown amount of cash, the robber fled.
Nobody was injured in the holdup.
"Our receptionist arrived at 9:45. A police officer came in pretty much right behind her and asked if we had been hit as well," said Veronica Rubio, who owns "Salon V" next door.
Police on Tuesday said it was too early to tell if this robbery is linked to several other hair salon robberies over the past month in the city and suburbs.
A nearby Great Clips salon at 1235 Clybourn Avenue was robbed in a similar fashion on Jan. 21.
Police believe the same man has been targeting several chain hair salons.
"I don't know why he's targeting salons, and he's also not getting huge sums of money so he's not going to be out there long," police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Tuesday evening.
