Libertyville Lizard Finally Caught

Savannah monitor lizard was on the loose for weeks

It's case closed for the lizard on the loose in Libertyville.

The 2 ½-foot-long savannah monitor lizard first showed up in Jim and Betty Moran's back yard last month. For weeks, they tried everything from hardboiled eggs to sardines to capture the creature.

When they spotted the lizard on their porch yesterday, they quickly called a Professor Mike Corn at the College of Lake County. He eventually caught it.

Corn said the lizard appeared tame, and was likely someone's pet that got loose.

Teachers at the college will now take care of the lizard and show it off in biology classes.
