State may consider rule against mixing the two in foster homes

After the dog mauling death of a 4-year-old boy at the home of his foster family last weekend, state legislators are taking a closer look at regulations around foster care placement.

Rep. Rosemary Mulligan (R-Des Plaines) said the Illinois House committee that oversees the Department of Children and Family Services might consider tough legislation outlawing dangerous dogs in foster homes, the Sun-Times reported.

"If you want to be a foster parent, forgoing a dog could be it,'' Mulligan said. "The primary thing you want to do is err on the side of protection of the child."
