Leno Livens Up Our Studios

Jay Leno stopped by the NBC 5 studios this morning to talk about his new prime-time series on NBC.

"It's called the 'Jay Leno Show,'" Leno said when asked what his new show is called. "It's very simple."

"It's a full on comedy show. I don't want to say variety show because that means wigs and stuff. We're going to keep a lot of elements that worked on the "Tonight Show" like the monologue, Jay Walking and headlines," Leno said.

Jay's new show which begins next month, is set to kick off with a performance by Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West.

The network and Leno said this week that there will be fewer musical acts. They also said he will feature interesting combinations of performers.

While  music stars are exciting, Jay said that he'll likely never get a buzz from a guest like the one he got when the president visited the Tonight Show earlier this year.

"That was fantastic, fantastic, fantastic," Leno said. "Here's the most popular guy in the world."

Leno stepped down as "Tonight" host in May. He said that he'll expect guests on his new show to do more than talk - like, for example, race electric cars on a track being built near his NBC studio in Burbank.

The series will air weekdays at 10 p.m. EDT.
