Lemont Man Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

The Animal Welfare League had to put down a number of the animals

A Lemont man faces multiple charges after police found more than 20 animals living in terrible conditions inside a Palos Park barn.

Prosecutors charged 49-year-old Jozef Maka with cruelty to animals, failure to get rabies shots for animals, failure to clean up feces and having unsafe living conditions, according to the Southtown Star.

Officers say they found four dogs, four goats, eight rabbits and five pigs, all unfed and covered in their own feces, after a neighbor heard strange noises and noticed a foul smell coming from the barn.

Some of the animals, who had a number of infections, had to be put down by the Animal Welfare League because of their debilitated condition.
