Illinois lawmakers are set to consider a $3.8 billion spending bill and a property tax exemption for some Chicago residents when they reconvene in Springfield.
The House is scheduled to meet Thursday for the first time in three weeks.
A committee is expected to advance a measure providing money for breast cancer screenings, lottery payouts and more during the state budget impasse.
Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has said he'll veto the bill, which the Senate already approved. Rauner's office calls it a "piecemeal" attempt to pass an unbalanced budget.
Lawmakers also will consider Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's request to exempt homeowners whose home values are $250,000 or less from an anticipated tax increase.
They'll also hear testimony about the shortage of state funds to provide mental health training for police.
