Latest Winter Storm Ain't So Bad

A winter storm that is expected to include sleet, freezing rain and snow is petering out a bit Sunday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to end its winter weather advisory early.

As the storm began to move through Sunday, parts of the Chicago area saw some snow, others freezing rain and sleet, but pretty much all of it had turned to rain by 9 a.m.  The bulk of that rain will move out by the afternoon, with just occasional rain possible later in the day.

The winter weather advisory is canceled at 10 a.m.

The Illinois Department of Transportation and the city of Chicago have had equipment on the roads in the early morning hours, and apart from some minor wrecks and spin-outs, their efforts appear to have been successful.  At 10 a.m., Streets and Sanitation said all their trucks had been pulled off streets, because temperatures were above freezing.

We may still see some snow, though.  On Monday there is a 50 percent chance of it, with a high temperature near 33.  Areas around Chicago could see an inch or so of accumulation.
