Shooting Victim Wanted “A Grand” to Stay Quiet

Larry Dennis, charged with felony bribery, held on $30,000 bond

A south suburban man shot last month in Chicago was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly trying to get $1,000 from a family member of the accused gunman for not testifying, prosecutors alleged.

Larry Dennis was shot by David Gordon during a July 7 argument in the 16300 block of South Laflin Avenue in Markham, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Gordon, who was in a vehicle, fired into a group of people and struck Dennis, prosecutors said.

Dennis was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and later identified Gordon as the shooter, according to a statement from the state’s attorney’s office. Gordon was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.

But on Aug. 21, Dennis told one of Gordon’s relatives that he would not testify against David Gordon in exchange for "a grand," according to prosecutors.

Dennis, 29, of Markham, agreed to meet the person on Aug. 26 to collect the $1,000 in a Homewood coffee shop, according to court documents. He was immediately arrested after accepting the money.

Charged with felony bribery, Dennis was ordered held on $30,000 bond Tuesday during a hearing at the Markham courthouse.

Dennis was previously convicted in July 2002 of armed robbery and sentenced to six years; and in August 2011 he was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon and sentenced to three years, according to court documents.
