CFD Responds to Train Fire at Chicago's Union Station

Chicago firefighters were dispatched to Union Station on Thursday evening after reports of a locomotive fire, officials confirmed.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, a locomotive caught fire just south of the station at Van Buren, but was quickly put out.

The train, reported as Metra BNSF train 1285, was evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

Some service interruptions are expected on the Southwest Service and BNSF lines.

The agency says that two trains, number 1285 and 1279, which were set to depart Union Station and head outbound, were not going to run due to "mechanical failures."

Police and firefighters remain on the scene.

We'll update this story with further developments.
