Suburban Farmers Market Canceled for the Season

A Chicago suburb is shuttering one of its farmers markets.

The City of Lake Forest announced that it will suspend operations of the Open Air Market at the East Side Train Station this summer.

"Falling attendance and less vendor participation" led to the decision to close the market, Community Development Director Catherine Czerniak told the Lake Forester.

The Saturday morning market would have entered its eighth season this year, according to its Facebook page. The event ran from June through October.

Czerniak did not rule out a return for the Open Air Market in the future, according to the Lake Forester.

However for now, city officials encouraged residents to patronize the Elawa Farm Garden Market, located at 1401 Middlefork Drive in Lake Forest.

Opening May 18, the Elawa Garden Market runs through Oct. 27 this year.
