An 18-year-old man is in serious condition after he was hit by a boat propeller in the northern suburbs on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the man, a Palatine, Illinois native, was riding on the bow of a pontoon boat at approximately 12:42 p.m. when he fell off the watercraft, where his leg was struck by the pontoon’s propeller.
Authorities say the man was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he is being treated for serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
Police say the man was in a “non-designated passenger area” while the boat was in motion, and have cited a 45-year-old Kildeer man for careless operation of a watercraft in the incident.
