Few Details After ATV, Cop Car Collide in West Suburb

"He usually has kids with him and he didn’t have any kids on today," one neighbor said of the ATV driver. "Thank God."

A crash involving a police car and an-all terrain vehicle in LaGrange occurred Wednesday afternoon--but few details have been officially released.

The incident occurred around 3:37 p.m near Washington and Calendar streets. Neighbors say the ATV driver was rushed to the hospital in unknown condition. Police haven’t told NBC 5 if the officer involved in the crash suffered any injuries.

“I ran over there immediately to see if he was all right," said neighbor Jermaine Johnson. "He wasn’t responding, so I got on the phone and called the ambulance."

Witnesses said the ATV driver blew through the stop sign, causing the crash at the corner.

"The cop car was coasting and didn’t have a stop sign," Johnson recalled. "He (the ATV driver) had a stop sign and he was going 50 and hit the back of the cop car and he flipped off."

It’s not the first time they’ve seen ATVs breaking the law in the neighborhood, some neighbors say.

"Sometimes they come around the block and don’t follow the stop sign and this is what happens," Ewedo Pearson said. "One thing leads to another. He hit the side of the police car."

Johnson said he was glad the ATV driver didn't have any kids with him.

"He usually has kids with him and he didn’t have any kids on today," he said. "Thank God."

Police didn't release any further details as of Wednesday night, but they did say they’re investigating an unlicensed and unregistered ATV that was involved in this crash.
