Kyle Long Needs Multiple Surgeries Before Returning: Report

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long had his season come to an end last week when he suffered an ankle injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but according to a new report, that’s not the only obstacle he’s going to face before he returns to the field again.

Long, who was placed on injured reserve earlier this week because of ligament damage in his right ankle, will have to undergo surgery on the injury before he can begin the recovery process, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

That isn’t the only surgery that Long will have to deal with, however. During the preseason, Long was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his shoulder, and although he was able to play with that injury this year, he’s going to need offseason surgery to repair that ailment as well.

Fortunately for the Bears, Long is expected to recover from both procedures in time to participate in some offseason workouts with the team, and he is expected to make a full recovery before training camp next season.

Long signed a four-year contract extension with the Bears during the offseason after making the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons in Chicago. In his first two years he made it in as a right guard, and last season he made it again after switching to right tackle before the season began.
