The Chicago Bears were rumored to be making a big push for the services of Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak for their head coaching position, but the coach put the kibosh on that speculation Sunday as he announced he was staying with the team.
Kubiak, who previously was the head coach of the Houston Texans, had an excellent first year in Baltimore working with Joe Flacco, Torrey Smith and Steve Smith. The team’s offense averaged nearly 370 yards per game, the best-average in their history, and they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the NFL playoffs before losing to the New England Patriots on Saturday in Foxboro.
The New York Jets were another team that was rumored to be pursuing Kubiak, but the coach made it clear that he’s happy staying in Baltimore.
“This is a special organization and we, like Coach [John] Harbaugh says, are building something great,” he said in a statement released by the team Sunday night.
