Kris Bryant's 100th Homer Couldn't Have Come on More Perfect Day

Bryant reached 100 home runs faster than Cubs legends like Banks, Williams

What to Know

  • Kris Bryant hit his 100th career home run, making him the 22nd Cub to reach that plateau.
  • The homer comes on the third anniversary of his first career big league long ball.
  • Bryant reached the milestone faster than Cubs legends like Banks, Williams.

Chicago Cubs infielder Kris Bryant clubbed his 100th career home run Wednesday afternoon, and there was added significance to the feat due to the way he achieved it.

Bryant, who was drafted by the Cubs in 2013 and was called up to the majors in 2015, hit his 100th home run on the third anniversary of the day when he hit his first career long-ball, a three run shot against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

According to NBC Sports Chicago’s Christopher Kamka, Bryant is the 22nd player in history to hit his 100th home run as a member of the Cubs. The home run also tied him with Keith Moreland on the team’s all-time home run list.

A unique experience at Sluggers Sports Bar in Chicago has fans lining up to see batting cages inspuired by Cubs star Kris Bryant. Sandra Torres reports.

Kamka also says that Bryant only took 487 career games to reach the 100 home run plateau, eclipsing a duo of Cubs greats. It took Ernie Banks exactly 500 games to hit 100 home runs, and it took Billy Williams 611 games to hit the milestone.

Unfortunately for Bryant, he didn’t even come close to setting an MLB record for fastest player to 100 career home runs. That distinction belongs to former Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard, who only needed 325 games to hit the milestone.
