Kirk Appears In Campaign Video With Dold

Rep. Bob Dold’s campaign has released a 56-second video of the congressman talking to Sen. Mark Kirk, after Dold’s campaign bus stopped outside Kirk’s Highland Park home.

We can’t hear what the two are talking about. The soundtrack is an excerpt from the Allman Brothers Band’s “Jessica.” Kirk is wearing eyeglasses, and a bomber jacket with a patch blurred out. Looking healthy and alert, he appears to be standing on his own, shakes hands with a voter and laughs with Dold. The right side of his face, which was affected by his stroke, still looks less mobile and expressive than the left.

Dold was elected in 2010 to the North Shore congressional seat that Kirk held for ten years before moving up to the Senate. Since then, the district has been redrawn to favor a Democrat, and Kirk is in a close race with Deerfield businessman Brad Schneider. The video was accompanied by an e-mail in which Kirk endorsed Dold, writing “Bob has shown time and time again his willingness to put partisanship aside and work with Democrats, Republicans and Independents to move our country forward.”
