Kellen Davis Raising Funds for Slain Bears Fan's Family

The Bears were shocked that a fan in Jacksonville to see them win over the Jaguars was stabbed to death in a bar. Tight end Kellen Davis decided to use his bye weekend to raise money for the family of William Pettry, the fan who died.

Davis told NBC Chicago that he was shocked when he heard the news.

"I heard on Tuesday when we had meetings, some people mentioned it. I mean, for what? For why? It's so senseless."

He was connected to Pettry's wife through a mutual acquaintance, and worked with his marketing manager to create an event.

"She was reaching out for help. I thought it was so sad. A senseless, terrible act. We wanted to help out."

Davis is hosting a fundraiser at John Barleycorn, 3524 N. Clark, at 5 p.m. on Saturday. They will auction off autographed items to start a memorial fund for the Pettry family.

"We're doing an event for the Pettrie family, trying to raise some money for them because he didn't have life insurance, the wife didn't work, they have three kids. They need some help. THe more donations we could get out there the better."

Former Bears Tommie Harris, Jason McKie and Rashied Davis are also expected to attend.

If you can't make it to Wrigleyville on Saturday, you can still help out the Pettry family. Click here to donate.
