Patrick Kane

Kane, Toews Among Five Blackhawks Named to All-Star Game

The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the best teams in the NHL this season, and their fans are clearly excited as their intense voting efforts led to five Hawks players being named starters for the NHL All-Star Game.

Forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews finished second and third overall in voting respectively, joining Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons on the roster. Defensemen Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook finished first and second among blue liners, beating out Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban. Goaltender Corey Crawford will also start in net for the game, beating out Canadiens netminder Carey Price.

Kane led all Blackhawks players with over 1.23 million votes, barely edging Toews' 1.22 million. Keith and Crawford rounded out the top five vote-getters in the NHL, with Seabrook being named to his first All-Star Game with just over 1 million votes to his credit.

The remaining 36 roster spots will be decided on Jan. 10 by the NHL, but there's very little chance any more Blackhawks will be named to the game. Niklas Hjalmarsson has an outside shot, but players like Patrick Sharp have been injured too much to warrant serious consideration and Marian Hossa has had a bit of a down year after being named to the All-Star Game in 2012.

The contest, which will be held in Columbus on Jan. 25, will feature a total of 42 players. The two teams playing in the game will be chosen in a fantasy-draft format, which will take place on the Friday before the game.
