Kane County health experts along with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recently issued a warning of a rise in ticks this season.
According to a CDC news release, mosquito, tick, and flea bites have tripled in the U.S., with more than 640,000 cases reported during the 13 years from 2004 through 2016.
Veterinarians say they're treating significantly more pets with ticks this year, many of them being dogs. Pet owners are reminded to check their dogs after they've been outside and to keep them on preventive topical or oral medications year round.
Ticks are known to spread Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF).
The CDC also reminds people to avoid places such as the woods, forests or piles of leaves where ticks are often found.
