A judge presiding over the case of a Chicago police officer charged in the shooting death of black teenager Laquan McDonald is continuing to keep out of public view filings made by defense attorneys and prosecutors.
The Chicago Tribune reports that on Saturday, Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan said he'll continue sealing every court filing.
The ruling was the latest move of a judge who has kept a tight lid on the information in the case since Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the 2014 shooting death of McDonald.
News organizations have requested that filings be unsealed. But Gaughan has indicated the secrecy is necessary to ensure a fair trial and on Saturday he ruled that he'll allow only 12 of the dozens of filings be unsealed .
