Jose Abreu Joins Exclusive Club With RBI Groundout

RBI groundouts are hardly newsworthy, but Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu used the otherwise-innocuous play to join an incredibly exclusive club on Saturday night.

Abreu, currently playing in his fourth MLB season, drove in his 100th RBI of the campaign in a game against the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field.

It marks the fourth consecutive season that he’s reached the century mark in RBI, and in doing so, he joined  New York Yankees legend Joe Dimaggio and slugger Albert Pujols as the only players in MLB history to hit at least 25 home runs and drive in 100 RBI in each of their first four career seasons.

Abreu also became just the fifth player in MLB history to hit 100 or more RBI in their first four seasons, joining Dimaggio, Pujols, Al Simmons, and Ted Williams.

Since signing with the White Sox, Abreu has hit 122 home runs and driven in 408 RBI in his career, and he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2014.
