Jordan Peele’s ‘Candyman’ Sequel is Filming in Chicago and Was Spotted in North Park This Week

Jordan Peele’s “Candyman” sequel was filming in Chicago’s North Park neighborhood this week.

The upcoming reboot of the classic horror film brought crews to the 5300 block of North St. Louis Avenue Wednesday.

Film crews were seen stretching down St. Louis and into a shopping center near Foster Avenue Wednesday. Filming may have returned to the former home of the Cabrini Green housing project by Friday, according to reports.

The movie is set to be shot entirely in Chicago, as was the original. Filming began in August with shooting locations earlier this month.

It will star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II of “Us,” Teyonah Parris of “If Beale Street Could Talk,” Nathan Stewart-Jarrett of “Misfits” and Colman Domingo of “Fear the Walking Dead.” It will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who was also behind “Little Woods.”

The 1992 horror flick centered on an urban legend and starred Tony Todd as the feared “Candyman.” The character was a former slave who became an artist and fell in love with a white woman. The woman had the couple’s child before "Candyman" was then murdered by a mob hired by the woman’s father. He was smeared with honey and attacked by bees until he died and his ashes were scattered on land that would ultimately house the Cabrini-Green housing project.

Legend in the film was that he would appear and murder anyone who said his name five times in the mirror.
