Jon Lester Says He ‘Blacked Out' During Davis' Seven-Out Save

Don’t ask Jon Lester about Wade Davis’ seven-out save during the Cubs’ Game 5 win against the Nationals Thursday night – he doesn’t know.

“I have no idea – I blacked out,” Lester told reporters as he chugged a bottle of champagne during the team’s celebration in the locker room. “I watched literally probably three outs of it.”

It’s a feeling fans can probably relate to as they recall the nail-biting series-clinching win.

“I have a problem in postseason games actually watching the game in the dugout,” Lester said. “And I watched the last three outs in the dugout and it was awesome - we did a great job the last three outs. The other four I have no idea what happened.”

It was a thriller Cubs manager Joe Maddon called “one of the most incredible victories I’ve ever been a part of.”

“I was prepared to use Wade for six, but what’s the difference between six and seven outs? So come out for the seventh one too,” Maddon said.

As for whether or not Lester will pitch Saturday, it appears that remains to be seen.

“Can I? Yeah,” he said. “I’ll be there. I’ll be in LA. I think the plane tonight’s going to LA so I’ll be there. And then, yeah, cool, sure, we’ll figure it out.”
