Jon Lester Joins Exclusive Club Thanks to Big Night at Wrigley

Tuesday night was a big night for Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, as he joined an exclusive club thanks to an interesting pair of feats.

The first feat he achieved in the game was with his bat, as he notched his first career home run in the midst of an explosion of offense for the Cubs:

The second came in the very next half inning, as he struck out Arizona Diamondbacks pinch-hi9tter Jack Reinheimer for his 2000th career strikeout as a big league hurler.

By hitting a home run and striking out his 2000th career batter in the same game, Lester became just the second big league pitcher to ever accomplish both feats in the same contest, joining Atlanta Braves legend John Smoltz, according to Elias Sports Bureau:

Despite the incredible achievements, Lester didn’t even get the win, as he didn’t make it through five innings of work, but the Cubs did in a 16-4 romp over the Diamondbacks.
