President Obama Congratulates Maddon, Cubs Thursday

Even though he is a diehard Chicago White Sox fan, President Barack Obama was rooting for the Chicago Cubs during the World Series, and he called manager Joe Maddon to offer his congratulations on the team’s championship Thursday night.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz issued a statement saying that the president called Maddon on Thursday and offered an invitation to the White House before his term ends in January.

“This evening aboard Air Force One, President Obama phoned Cubs manager Joe Maddon to congratulate his team on their historic World Series victory,” Schultz said. “The President extended an invitation to the team to visit the White House before he leaves office. The President expressed how proud he was of the team, and how much he enjoyed watching the Cubs break their 108-year curse.”

Both Obama and former Secretary of State (and current presidential candidate) Hillary Clinton tweeted out congratulations to the Cubs after their victory on Wednesday, which ended a 108-year championship drought for the team.
