Jimmy Butler Wins Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award

The Chicago Bulls are currently on one of their most difficult road trips of the season, and Jimmy Butler has not only made it a successful one thus far, but he's also caught the attention of the NBA as a whole.

On Monday, Butler was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week because of his strong efforts on the road trip. Butler averaged 27.3 points per game over the course of four games last week, and he added in 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game for good measure.

Butler’s best game of the week came on Sunday night, when he led the Bulls to an impressive 118-110 win over the upstart Los Angeles Lakers. With Dwyane Wade out of the lineup, Butler took over the bulk of the scoring load, pouring in a season-high 40 points as the Bulls won for the third time in four circus trip games.

In 14 games this season, Butler is averaging 25.1 points per game and is averaging 6.6 rebounds per contest as he’s established himself as one of the early contenders for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award.

Butler wasn’t the only player with a Chicago connection to be honored by the NBA for his performances last week either, as Chicago-native Anthony Davis won the Western Conference Player of the Week award for his play with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Butler and the Bulls will next take the court on Tuesday night when they travel to Denver for a game against the Nuggets, and then they’ll finish up their circus trip with a Friday game against the lowly Philadelphia 76ers in the City of Brotherly Love.
