Thieves Steal More Than $400K in Jewelry, Gems From Suburban Jewelry Store

Two men walked into the store, smashed the glass on multiple display cases and ran off with several pieces of jewelry and loose gems

Two men stole more than $400,000 worth of jewelry and loose gems from a suburban jewelry store Tuesday night after smashing the glass on the display cases with hammers.

The suspects walked into the Jared Galleria of Jewelry store in Schaumburg, located at 1700 Woodfield Road just south of Woodfield Mall, at about 8 p.m. Tuesday carrying hammers or other tools. They then smashed the glass on multiple display cases and took several jewelry pieces and loose gems valued at more than $427,000, according to Schaumburg police.

The store was open at the time of the robbery, but police could not confirm how many people were inside at the time.

The men then fled the store to a minivan waiting outside. The van, which was later found empty in a parking lot, had been reported stolen from Rolling Meadows, police said.

The suspects are not in custody, and Schaumburg police are continuing the investigation.
