Doug Cygan, the president of Jewel-Osco, has died at the age of 55, according to the company.
“Doug was a popular president, a strong leader within the company and in the community,” a company spokeswoman told the Times of Northwest Indiana. “Everyone at Jewel-Osco is devastated by his passing.”
Cygan leaves behind a wife and six children, according to the company.
The Itasca-based grocery chain has nearly 200 locations in the Chicago-area.
