‘We Love Him': Super Bowl Champ Jake Elliott Gets Hero's Welcome at Alma Mater

Surrounded by screaming fans, Lyons Township alum Jake Elliott returned to where it all started.

It was Elliott’s first time back to the school where he first kicked a football.

Kurt Weinberg was one of Elliott’s football coaches.

“We care a lot about him and it’s nice that he can be here for a nice event and we can all, you know, the community and the school show our appreciation and how much we love him," Weinberg said.

The Friday night home game of the boy’s varsity basketball game pitted the Lions against Glenbard West.

But the night was all about the home-team hero--a man of few words.

“Unbelievable," Elliott said of the event. "Really cool."

Elliott became a school legend this year kicking three field goals and and two extra points to help carry the Philadelphia Eagles to a Supe Bowl championship over the New England Patriots.

“It’s just great to see someone from our school come and do it big," said Lyons Township senior Mickey Brown. "Come back and show their support and everything for us."

And for these loyal fans, like senior Savannah Strasser, just catching a glimpse of the Super Bowl hero made for an exciting night.

“I watched all the super bowl," Strasser said. "I mean I didn’t know him personally, but like learning all this stuff is like really amazing. I don’t even know what to say I’m like speechless right now.”
