An Illinois State Police trooper was hospitalized on Sunday morning after his car was struck by another vehicle on Interstate 55 in Montgomery County.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the trooper’s SUV was also taken to an area hospital. Both individuals were being treated for minor injuries, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. near mile marker 71 on northbound Interstate 55, according to police. The police vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe, was sitting on the inside shoulder with its emergency lights activated when a Honda applied its brakes and lost control.

That vehicle hit the police SUV and spun back into the traffic lanes, where it was hit by a Volkswagen, according to police.
The driver of the Honda was taken to Saint John’s Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries. The driver of the police vehicle was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Litchfield with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.

According to ISP, this is the 11th crash involving a squad car so far this year. Officials once again are asking the public to move over and slow down when they see emergency vehicles on area highways and streets.
