I-55 Reopens Near Channahon After Truck Overturns

All northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near West Blodgett Road, south of Channahon, reopened late Friday morning after being closed due to an overturned tractor trailer.

Illinois State Police Trooper DeAnn Falat said the truck's driver lost control shortly before 8 a.m., rolled up onto the top of a bridge rail near mile marker 242.5, and came to rest with the cab hanging off the bridge over railroad tracks below.

Commuters in the area were diverted to North River Road to Illinois Route 53 during the closure.

The truck driver was able to get out without life-threatening injuries and the truck was removed by 11 a.m.

Falat did not indicate whether any citations would be issued.
