While many ambitious athletes plan to make the 26.1-mile trek, the marathon isn't the only race happening during the busy weekend.

On Saturday, October 12, runners will make a much shorter 3.1-mile journey as part of the Advocate Health Care International 5K.

The International 5K, which aims to represent the cultural diversity of Chicago, gets underway at 7:30 a.m., according to the race's website.

Runners will start their journey at Daley Plaza, pass several iconic landmarks and cross the finish line in Grant Park.

Registered runners will receive a commemorative Chicago-style winter hat, event bib number/timing device and a finisher medal.

Registration has closed, according to the website.
