An infant was wounded Friday night after the car he was in fled police officers and crashed in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

Officers said they saw shots fired out of a white PT Cruiser just before 10 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Division Street. No one was injured in the shooting, but when police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the car accelerated.

Officials said the driver lost control of the vehicle about two miles away near Grand and Ashland Avenues. The car slammed into a pole and caught fire, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

The driver of the vehicle, a man who had not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to authorities.

Two women, ages 26 and 23, suffered serious injuries and were listed in serious but stable condition at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

A 9-month-old boy, who was in a car seat in the vehicle, was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital for observation. He was last listed in stable condition.

Police said a gun was found inside the vehicle but no charges had been filed as of Saturday morning.
