Seven of the 10 individuals in the minivan died in the crash, and all of the victims were from the Chicago area, headed to New Jersey for a baptism.

The truck was just east of South Bend when it struck a deer on Interstate 80/90, and shortly after was rear-ended by a 2006 Freightliner semi pulling a trailer, police said Friday morning.

Indiana State Police say nobody inside the minivan was wearing a seatbelt, not even an infant that died in the crash.

Members of three families were inside the van and were identified as:

One of the passengers told officials that several people in the van originally were from Ecuador.

The driver of the semi, Jesse F. Donovan, 24, from Johnston, R.I., was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Police said a preliminary test for alcohol came back negative.
